Cooperation between SWITCH and OFCOM extended
On 20 March 2015, the SWITCH foundation and the Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM) signed an extension of the existing registry contract to 30 June 2017. The transfer of .ch domain names from SWITCH to the registrars is proceeding as planned.
DIDS 2015 Internet conference held in Belgrade - 16 March 2015
More than 300 visitors took part in this year’s Serbian Internet Domains Day (DIDS 2015), held in Belgrade and organised by RNIDS. DIDS 2015 was the sixth annual conference on the development of the Internet globally and in the Serbian .rs and .??? domain spaces, held this year under the slogan “Which Internet Film are you in?”. DNS.PT is preparing a weekly newsletter exclusively addressed to its registrars.The intention is to share news about several topics related to DNSSEC, domains, Internet, electronic communications and others. The registrars are free and invited to submit articles or simply share information about events, new services, etc. This first edition will be only in Portuguese, but in the upcoming weeks we hope to be able to do it in English as well.

Sunrise period for Cyrillic .БЕЛ domains has started
On the 1st of March 2015 hoster.by ( IDN ccTLD .BEL Registry) announced the start of the first registration stage of Cyrillic domains in ccTLD .BEL.
On the first stage, registration is available for the owners of trademarks and trade names of legal entities. Also in priority order, domain names are being registered for public authorities and organizations.
To get acquainted with preparation process of domain zone for open registration sites on Russian http://домены.бел, Belarussian http://дамены.бел and English languages http://dotbel.by are created.
Submitting an application for .BEL domain on the first stage of priority registration is available within three months (from the 1st of March to the 31st of May).
Specially created committee of the representatives of the National intellectual property center, the Chamber of Commerce and the technical administrator of ccTLD .BEL and .BY examines all the applications.
In order to avoid disputes and to equalize the rights of all applicants the results of applications examination will be announced at the end of the reception, after May 31, 2015.

CENTR reaches the 70M registrations mark
In early February 2015, CENTR’s ccTLD full members aggregate registrations crossed the 70 million mark. This number includes 57 ccTLDs and IDN ccTLDs in 49 countries. CENTR’s full members have benefited from a 45% growth in registrations over the past five years, or 21.8 million new domain names. The largest CENTR members in February 2015 include .de (15.8 million), .uk (10.5 million) and .nl (5.5 million). The highest growth by CENTR members over the past five years has been observed by .ir (324%), .pt (114%) and .ru (86%).
CENTR Board Statement on the NIS Directive
On 20 February, CENTR's Board of Directors issued a statement regarding the European Commission's Directive on Network and Information Security (NIS). The Board expressed its concerns regarding the scope of the Directive, which currently suggests to explicitly include 'national domain name registries' and 'domain name system service providers', which had previously not been included in the original proposal and the European Parliament's amendments.
