IETF Meeting in Berlin
More than 1,500 technical experts are coming together in Berlin from 28 July until 2 August at the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) Meeting to jointly work at the further evolution of the Internet and to develop tomorrow's protocol standards. As the global Internet’s premier technical standards body, the IETF is open to any interested person, and the results of its work are based on competence and the best technical arguments. In 106 working groups experts from 74 countries develop concepts to enhance security, speed and user-friendliness on the Internet – be it to secure routes, to provide extensions for mobile applications or to protect data in the cloud.
Based on open and freely available standards, DNS enables the resolution of domain names and their translation into IP addresses, and thus easy use of the Internet. Additional security is provided by security extensions like DNSSEC (Domain Name System Security Extensions), which was developed in the IETF and has been implemented as a standard by more than 100 country codes, including .de.
As the meeting in Berlin too will have an impact on the way we will use the Internet in the future.

Estonian Internet Foundation’s re-delegation application approved
At the ICANN47 in Durban, South Africa the ICANN Board of Directors approved the re-delegation application of the Estonian Internet Foundation.
The ICANN Board of Directors (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) approved the Estonian Internet Foundation’s re-delegation application to become the sponsoring organisation of the .ee domain name. The Estonian Internet Foundation has been fulfilling the duties of administration of the .ee top domain since 2010.
"The status of a sponsoring organisation will give the Foundation, and through that also the Estonian Internet community, the opportunity to have their say in issues related to domains and to the Internet in general. The newly acquired status lets us become a member of the Country Code Names Supporting Organisation acting under ICANN," says Heiki Sibul, member of the management board of the Estonian Internet Foundation.
The re-delegation process took almost two years. "I would like to thank the founders of the Foundation - the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications and the Association of Information Technology and Telecommunications as well as the former .ee representatives Endel and Jaak Lippmaa, all the members of the supervisory board and those who supported us," Sibul added.

SIDN comes up with Secure transfer for DNSSEC-secured names
Until recently, DNSSEC – the security extension to the Domain Name System widely rolled out in the .nl domain – had one major unresolved drawback. Transferring a DNSSEC-secured domain name from one DNS operator to another was a major headache. Now SIDN, the company that administers the .nl domain, has come up with a unique solution: 'key relay'. On the day that key relay was introduced to .nl, two registrars immediately put the mechanism to successful use. ..Read further
