The national domain zone .BY appeared on 5 May 1994. The Belarusian top-level domain has come to its 21st anniversary in excellent shape:
- The .BY domain has been showing the highest growth rates in Europe more than 2 years in a row;
- Technical facilities are in full compliance with international standards (including Whois service, DNSSEC and IPv6 support);
- The number of domain registrations is close to 120,000. Over half of all domains were registered during the last 3 years.
Another .BY record over the last 3 years has been the sum of money collected with the help of charitable auctions and sent to Belarusian orphanages. In the beginning of 2015 it exceeded 2 billion rubles.

Belarus is also among the top three European countries with the highest share of national domains: 80% of Belarusians choose .BY as a domain for their websites.
More than 60% of .BY domains lead to working sites. Joomla and Wordpress are on leading positions among popular CMS'. The most successful commercial CMS is 1C-Bitrix.
