The Administrative Working Group re-elects Chair
At the 52nd Administrative Working Group meeting on 18-19 February, Sascha Kämpf (DENIC, .de) was re-elected Chair of the working group. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Sascha for his energy and continued dedication over the years!
CENTR L&R Working Group appoints Chair and new Vice-Chair
During the first CENTR working group meeting of 2021 the Legal & Regulatory Working Group (L&R WG) appointed Ann-Cathrin Marcussen (Norid, .no) as Chair and Julie Michel (EURid, .eu) as Vice-Chair at the 64th CENTR Legal and Regulatory workshop. Both are appointed for a period of two years.

EU Policy Update - Outlook to 2021
In a nutshell: The end of 2020 was full of policy and legislative proposals to fill the EU bubble’s agenda in 2021. The European Parliament’s LIBE committee approved its position on the e-Evidence package. The European Commission published the following legislative proposals, that are relevant for internet infrastructure actors: Europol’s revised mandate to increase its cooperation with private parties; the proposal for the Digital Services Act; the proposal for the NIS 2 Directive; and the proposal for a directive on the resilience of critical entities. In the coming months, the Commission is planning to come up with legislation on tackling the issue of child sexual abuse online and on digital identity.
PrivacyCamp2021: CENTR participates in panel on wiring digital justice
On 26 January 2021 EDRi’s annual PrivacyCamp event was organised online for the first time. Over six hours, in three parallel tracks, activists and officials discussed hot privacy topics. CENTR participated in a multi-disciplinary panel on wiring digital justice.

Choosing the right encrypted DNS resolvers: who discovers the options?
The Adaptive DNS Discovery (ADD) working group (WG) at the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) has been trying to catch up with the deployment of encrypted DNS and met six times last year. Its goal is to provide standardised means of discovering which encrypted options are available to various network users, and a means for those same users to select the option most appropriate for their intended use. The work entails manoeuvering between technical tasks and policy choices that other WGs, such as the DNS Operations (DNSOP) WG were reluctant to pick up.
